Hysteroscopy

It is an endoscopic exam in which a thin, delicate optic device is inserted through the vaginal canal into the uterus, allowing the physician to directly view the uterine cavity in real time.

It can be used for diagnosis — investigating bleeding, polyps, fibroids, adhesions and other changes in the uterine cavity — and, in certain cases, also for treatment, in the same procedure.

Diagnostic hysteroscopy is for investigation and is usually performed in the office or an outpatient setting. Surgical hysteroscopy allows treatment of identified changes, such as polyp removal, and is conducted according to each case’s indication.
